foxhound [fäks′hound΄]
a hound of either of two breeds (American foxhound and English foxhound) with a close, hard coat of black, tan, and white and ears set close to the head: the English breed has a heavier build, but both are noted for their endurance and have been trained to hunt foxes and other game
